Real Estate

The study forecasts the labour demand for occupations in the real estate services sector over ten years (2023–2033).

In 2023, approximately 35,000 people were employed in core occupations in the real estate services sector. According to the forecast, the total number of jobs in the sector will remain the same over the next ten years. During the forecast period, around 15,000 new employees will be needed in core occupations to cover labour turnover and replace those retiring.

About a quarter of the total labour demand – approximately 4,000 individuals – should ideally have received formal education in the field. However, not all employees need to be trained through formal education, as the sector is also accessible to those with backgrounds in other fields, provided they upgrade their real estate-related knowledge and skills through training or on-the-job learning.

The number of formal education graduates is projected to fall short of the required new workforce. It is estimated that slightly more than 2,000 people will enter the real estate services sector from relevant study programmes over the next decade. This means that the number of graduates from specialised formal education will cover only about half of the projected demand.

To some extent, the shortage of graduates is offset by recruitment from adjacent fields (e.g. construction, business, law). The labour shortage is also partly alleviated by foreign labour.

Continuing training plays an important role in the real estate services sector for both new and existing employees. Therefore, it is essential to continue offering flexible and diverse learning opportunities.
