The pharmaceutical industry
The aim of the study is to find out how employment, labour, and skills needs in the main professions of the sector will change over the next ten years and to make proposals on how to better respond to changing labour market needs.
The pharmaceutical industry in Estonia is a modestly employed sector (up to 600 employees in the main professions), but with a great potential for development and a highly educated workforce. Employment in the pharmaceutical industry is forecast to grow by 70% over the next ten years.
As young people continue to show an interest in studying chemical, environmental, and genetic engineering and related disciplines, there is a future workforce with the suitable higher education qualifications.
The situation in the pharmaceutical industry is much more difficult in terms of training suitable specialists with vocational education qualifications: there is a shortage of graduates in sector-specific vocational training (laboratory assistants and chemical process operators).
